Gandhi Jayanti 2018: Twitter India introduces ‘Gandhi Emoji’ on birth anniversary

New Delhi: This year on October 2, India will be celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and in this spirit of celebration. Twitter India has announced that it will be launch a new ‘Gandhi Emoji’. The ‘Gandhi Emoji’ will go live on Gandhi Jayanti and will be available for a period of one week.

The ‘Gandhi Emoji’ can be used when users tweet using the hashtags such as #GandhiJayanti, #MKGandhi, #BapuAt150, #MahatmaGandhi, #MyGandhigiri and #MahatmaAt150.

The emoji will feature a caricature of Mahatma Gandhi with blue and white colours in the background, which also happens to be the theme of Twitter’s official logo.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat and was a strong believer of truth and non-violence. He played a prominent role in fight against the British Imperialism and for the independence of India from the colonial rule. His method of fighting the injustice was through non-violence and passive resistance.

On the other hand, this is not the first time that Twitter or any other social media has announced special emojis for any particular event as Twitter had launched customized emojis for Indian users on the occasions of Independence Day, Republic Day, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, International Day of Yoga as well as Ambedkar Jayanti.
