New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Vice President Praful Patel addressed the press after NCP’s former chief Sharad Pawar resigned from his post. Talking to the media, he informed that the party leaders had a meeting with him and asked everyone to give him some time. He also addressed the concerns over the party’s internal politics that may have led to such a sudden decision.
Praful Patel said that Sharad Pawar reiterated the need for a generational change and maybe he wanted a new generation to step forward. He mentioned that none of the party members knew about his step beforehand. Patel added that some of the party workers wanted him to withdraw his resignation and party leaders including Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, Chhagan Bhujbal and him spoke to Pawar.

Praful stated that Sharad Pawar has asked for some time and he should be granted the same.
When asked about him being the next President of NCP, he cleared that the final decision on the resignation of Sharad Pawar is awaited and personally, he is not ready to take up this responsibility.
Addressing the issue of the party’s internal politics, Praful said that the party is united and everyone stands together under the leadership of Pawar. He made it clear that no factions will appear out of NCP.

Sharad Pawar, who has been one of the co-founders of the party, in a shocking announcement took the decision to step down from his post. While it was big news in Maharashtra’s politics and affected the party’s stability and status, his resignation also shook NCP and was followed by the resignations of the party’s National General Secretary Jitendra Awhad and some other NCP workers.
A committee has been formed to decide on the post of NCP president and will hold a meeting at YB Chavan Center, Mumbai.
