Goa Assembly Election results 2022: Winners, Losers and Vote Percentage

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  is set to retain power in Goa with the help of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) and Independent candidates.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party in Goa by winning 20 seats in the 40-member state assembly and decimated Congress to 11 seats. Independent candidates bagged three seats while two seats each went to tally of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) tally.

Revolutionary Goans Party and Goa Forward Party (GFP) got one seat each. According to Election Commission, BJP got 33.31 per cent vote share followed by Congress (23.46 per cent), MGP (7.60 per cent), Aam Aadmi Party (6.77) and Trinamool Congress (5.21 per cent).

2017 Goa assembly results

In the 2017 election, the BJP won 13 seats, and the Congress emerged as the largest party by getting 17 seats in the assembly. Despite the lack of a majority, BJP managed to form its government with the support of other winners.

Manohar Parrikar, who was then Defence Minister resign from his post to lead the BJP government. After his death in 2019, Pramod Sawant took over office. The vote percentage of BJP was recorded at 32.5% in 2017. The Congress managed to get 28.4% and AAP was at 6.3%.

Exit poll predictions

According to Exit polls of ABP Majha-C Voter, BJP will get 13 to 17 seats, Congress will get 12 to 16 and TMC may bag 4 to 9 seats. ETG Research’s survey said BJP is likely to win between 15-17 seats followed by Congress (15-17) and TMC (3-4). The polls of India Toda- Axis my India predicted that BJP may bag 14-18 seats, followed by Congress (15-20), TMC (2-5).

The polls conducted by India TV-CNX said BJP candidates may win 16 to 22 seats. This is followed by Congress (11-17), TMC (1-2).

Vote percentages of parties in Exit Polls

If we look at the voting percentage of the political parties, BJP is likely to garner a vote share of 29 per cent of the votes, followed by the Congress-GFP (28.2%), AAP (15.55%),  TMC-MGP (10.1%), and other (17.2%). The data is based on P-MARQ exit polls.
