New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday made an emphatic mention of Congress ‘mistakes & blunders’ regarding Jammu & Kashmir, soon after India’s independence.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Jammu & Kashmir Re-organization bill, Home Minister took potshots at the then Congress governments for its faulty policy, the repercussions of which had to be borne by many following generations.
The Home Minister listed out two ‘mistakes’ of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru which not only led to creation of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) but also made many generations to endure the hardship.
Amit Shah said that Jammu & Kashmir residents silently suffered in the aftermath of the mistakes committed during Nehru regime and it continued until Modi government took bold step of revoking the Article 370 & 31A.
“First mistake of Nehru regime was to announce ceasefire when our forces were chasing away Pakistani intruders and had just re-captured Punjab. This resulted in creation of PoK,” Amit Shah said listing out ‘biggest mistake’ of then government.
“Had ceasefire been announced after 3 days, the entire PoK would have been ours,” Shah said further.

He further said that the then Prime Minister taking India’s internal matter to the United Nations was another mistake.
“It was a blunder, a historical blunder,“ Amit Shah said while treasury benches thumped the benches to back his claim.
Shah’s reply to Adhir Ranjan’s dare
Shah, though initially restrained in his attack on the then Congress governments, made an emphatic mention of Nehru’s ‘blunders’ towards the end of his speech.
Amit Shah, while speaking about Modi government’s progressive steps in Jammu & Kashmir was first ‘poked’ by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Adhir Ranjan reportedly challenged the Home Minister for a debate on JawaharLal Nehru’s policies regarding Kashmir and dared the ruling govt to list any one mistake.
Home Minister was quick to accept the challenge, saying “We are ready, we can do the debate now”.
Congress Leader in Parliament Adhir Ranjan thinks he has thrown a googly- I challenge you to conduct Parliament Debate on Nehru’s mistake on Kashmir.
HM Amit Shah- We are always ready. Let’s do it right away (Hum abhi taiyar hain) 🔥😀🫡pic.twitter.com/quZ5uxAWfm
