New Delhi, Jan 25: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the bill on Jallikattu passed by the Tamil Nadu government.

The Animal Welfare Board of India moved the court stating that the bill was illegal and against the law. The matter is likely to come up for hearing on January 30

The TN government had on Monday passed a bill legalizing Jallikattu in the state. The bill was passed after the Supreme Court had stayed a notification issued by the center allowing the bull-taming sport to be played.

During the arguments, the AWBI also requested the court not to permit the center to withdraw the notification on Jallikattu. The center had told the SC on Tuesday that it was withdrawing the notification as a bill had been passed by TN.

The AWBI said that the center made the submission with the intention of making the petition infructuous. Since there are other players involved in the matter, the notification should not be withdrawn, the petitioners also submitted.
