New Delhi: As the crackdown continues against radical preacher & Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh, the Jammu Police on Saturday said that it has detained a couple for alleged links with a close aide of the fugitive separatist.

Jammu Police said that it has detained Amrik Singh, a resident of RS Pura and his wife Paramjit Kour for having links with Papalpreet Singh, a key aide of Amritpal Singh.

Papalpreet Singh is said to be assisting his leader & Waris Punjab De chief in finding him safe hideouts and thus evading police arrest.

Notably, the Punjab police launched a manhunt for arresting pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh on March 18 but he managed to flee from spot and remains on the run.

Police have mounted search operation at several places first in Haryana, then in Uttarakhand over his reported presence. A couple of his videos also surfaced from Haryana’s Kurushetra while alert was sounded in Dehradun & Haridwar districts of Uttarakhand. Reports, though unconfirmed, also suggested that he could be heading to Delhi for his next stop.

Waris Punjab De chief has been absconding for 8 days now and the Punjab police is not ruling out his escape to outside the country via Nepal border.

Though, many close aides & supporters including gunners of Amritpal have been arrested but the chief remains absconding. Punjab Police IGP, in a press conference on Thursday, informed that more than 200 people have been taken into custody till now.

Punjab police’s bungled operation over Amritpal’s arrest has come under scrutiny and the same was reflected in High Court’s observation, which pulled up the Punjab govt for failing to arrest him despite a co-ordinated operation.

“You have 80,000 cops. How could Amritpal escape despite a well-planned operation and huge force to support the operation,” Punjab & Haryana HC said.
