Kanhaiya Kumar responded to this development in the sedition case and said, “If the news is true that a charge sheet has been filed, I would like to thank police and Modi Ji. The filing of charge sheet after 3 years, ahead of elections clearly shows it to be politically motivated. I trust the judiciary of my country.”
On 9th February 2016, a protest was held in JNU against death sentence given to Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
Kanhaiya is all set to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai in Bihar on a CPI ticket and RJD and Congress are expected to extend their support to him.
