New Delhi: In yet another heart wrenching incident, at least six miners were killed after an illegal coal mine reportedly collapsed in Rymbai village in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) district of Meghalaya on late Thursday night.
Confirming the news, Chief Minister Congrad Sangma said that he is aware of the incident , but he is yet to get the details.
The bodies of the miners were retrieved on Friday morning. They have been sent to the Community Health Centre in Khliehriat for an autopsy.
2018 Incident at Ksan village
It was on December 12, 2018, a similar incident took place which claimed the lives of at least 10 miners at Ksan village in Eastt Jaintia Hills, had rocked the entire state and the Northeast.
The tragic incident took place when the water of the nearby Lytein river gushed into the 350-feet deep rat-hole mine at Ksan area in the district.
A person named, Krip Chullet, who was allegedly involved in hiring labourers, overseeing the work and sending them down the shaft, was arrested from his home in Norman village in the same district.
Krip Chullet was arrested for causing death due to negligence and various sections of the Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, the SP said.
