New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday moved an application before the Supreme Court praying for modification of the “convict-centric” guidelines.

In its application, the Union Home Ministry asked the top court to mandate that convicts had to file a curative petition within a specified period and could only file a mercy petition within 7 days of the death warrant being issued.

In the application, MHA also appealed to make the guidelines “victim-centric” to reinforce the people’s faith in the rule of law.
