Paying tribute to Galwan martyrs: Odissi dancer to organize digital dance-song contest for children

Odissi dancer Chandana Raul is going to organize a digital dance and song competition. 50% proceeds of these competition will go to the families of Galwan martyrs and govt funds for the fight against Covid-19.

New Delhi: Army jawans sacrificed their lives in the Galwan valley face-off at LAC to secure India’s territory while doctors are putting their own lives at risk to safeguard the countrymen from deadly Covid-19 outbreak. Countrymen will remain indebted to these warriors for their brave and altruistic service to the nation.

Taking a lead in paying tribute to them, a New Delhi-based Odissi dancer Chandana Raul is going to organize a digital dance and song competition, proceeds of which will be earmarked for these warriors. According to Chandana Raul, 50% of the registration fee will go to the families of Galwan martyrs and govt funds for the fight against Covid-19.

Sharing her thoughts on the upcoming digital event, Chandana Raul says that she wanted to encourage children, to use their idle time, in doing something creative and productive and at the same time imbibe a sense of patriotism by paying tribute to the Galwan martyrs and the Covid warriors.

The dance and song competition will be available for General as well as divyang participants and will have 3 categories based on age groups. Special emphasis like free enrollment has been made to ensure divyangs’ participation in the digital dance and song contest. Children from Nepal and Bangladesh can also participate in this digital contest.

Event to instill feeling of patriotism & nationalism in children

According to Chandana, the participants will be given option to dance on two songs – Bande Utkal Janani, Odisha’s state song and Subham kurutwam Kalyanam evening prayer, a Sanskrit song while in the singing category, they can record the two-minute song of their choice but it should be either patriotic or devotional.

The participants will be required to record their two minute videos and send it back to the organizer. The last date for sending the videos is July 31.

The video performances of winners in dance and song contest will be streamed on Chandana Raul’s social media accounts – Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram on August 15. Chandana Raul will also be performing live on the Facebook that day, to pay tribute to the warriors who are selflessly serving the country while putting their own life in jeopardy.
