New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the young weightlifter Achinta Sheuli for bagging the gold medal in Birmingham and also shared a video of his past interaction with the Commonwealth Games medalist.

Sharing a post from personal handle, PM Modi said that Achinta worked hard to achieve his dream and laurel for the nation. He also extended best wishes to the gold medalist for his future endeavours.

Achinta Sheuli bagged the country’s 3rd gold on Sunday night, lifting a weight of 313kg. He has also set new records in snatch and total lifts.

In his past conversation with the young weightlifter, PM Modi enquired Achinta about his shy & reserved nature and how he managed to excel in the game, the athlete said that Yoga helps him achieve the balance.

In the virtual interaction, PM Modi also spoke about his elder brother & mother and said that the nation will remember their contribution in shaping his career.

On a lighter note, PM Modi also quipped in the tweet hoping that the actor goes to watch a movie after medal was won.

Earlier, interacting with the Indian contingent ahead of the Commonwealth Games, PM Modi had expressed confidence that the athletes will make a tremendous impact in the global arena. He had also urged athletes to pursue the mantra of “Kyu Pade Ho Chakkar Me Koi Nahi Hai Takkar Me” when they face rivals.

Other Indian gold medalists at Birmingham

The other medalists who won gold for India at the CWG 2022 include — Mirabai Chandi’s gold in women’s 49kg weightlifting and Jerermy.

Jeremy was 1st of 3 athletes to have won gold medal at 2018 Youth Olympics, when he was just 16 years old.

Other medalists who won medals for the nation include Bidyarani Devi’s silver in women’s (55kg weightlifting), Gururaja Poojary’s bronze in men’s (61kg weightlifting)
