PM Modi-Xi Jinping 2nd informal summit in Mahabalipuram, security tightened

New Delhi: India is awaiting the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping for the Second Informal Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu on Friday and Saturday.

As a strategy to build upon the ancient cultural and trade ties with China and also to showcase India’s diversity, the venue for this summit had to be outside Delhi and Mamallapuram was selected.

PM Modi called Xi Jinping over crucial issues

Multi-layered security has been put in place at Mamallapuram. More than ten thousand police personnel have been deployed at key locations in Chennai and the venue for the summit to provide security for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Prime Minister Modi will be arriving at Chennai tomorrow by a special aircraft, from where he will reach Mamallapuram by helicopter. The Chinese President will reach Chennai in the afternoon tomorrow and head to a hotel in Chennai, from where he will reach the venue by road.

The Pancha Ratha’s, Butter Ball, Arjuna’s Penance and the Shore Temple, that are going to be visited by the leaders of both the countries as a prelude to the summit tomorrow, have been given a face-lift. Both the leaders will also witness a cultural show by kalakshetra foundation at Shore temple.

On Saturday, both the leaders will have a one to one conversation followed by a limited delegation level talks.

Security heightened in Mamallapuram

Security has been heightened in Mamallapuram ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit.

Besides this, national flags of India and China have been across the sprawling venue.

Not Mamallapuram, preparations have also been mad at Chennai Airport ahead of Xi’s arrival. The Chinese President will visit Chennai from October 11-12 for the second Informal Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Moreover, the airport is being decked up traditionally with banana leaves, flower garlands, and fruits.

Ahead of Xi Jinping’s visit to India, around 2000 school students in Chennai wore masks with his picture on them and made formations to welcome him in the city.

The second informal summit will be held in Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu. The two leaders had their first inaugural informal summit in China’s Wuhan on April 27 and 28 last year.

PM Modi discussed crucial issues with Xi Jinping

The summit will provide an opportunity to the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance and to exchange views on deepening India-China Closer Development Partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
