Puri, Cuttack to have world-class railway stations; PM Modi to lay foundation stone for redevelopment

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone of redevelopment of Puri & Cuttack railway stations in Odisha on Thursday.

The redeveloped railway stations in Puri & Cuttack will be equipped with all modern amenities of travel & comfort, aimed at according world-class experience to all the rail travellers.

Both Puri & Cuttack boast of series of pilgrimage sites and the purpose behind this initiative is to give impetus to tourism in these two religious towns. The revamped railway stations will provide world-class experience to all the train passengers as well as pilgrims.

According to reports, about Rs 303 crore has been sanctioned for the redevelopment of Cuttack railway station while Puri station revamp is likely to take about 36 months. The design of railways stations is said to have been inspired by the local architecture of temples.

During the event, Prime Minister will also push for 100% electrification of the rail network in Odisha asĀ  this will significantly cut down its dependence on imported crude oil.

After laying foundation stone of Puri & Cuttack railway stations, PM Modi will also flag off Vande Bharat Express between Puri and Howrah.

How Cuttack railway station will look like after makeover

The Vande Bharat Express will connect places like Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore districts in Odisha and Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur districts in West Bengal.

The train will provide comfortable & convenient train journey to the travelers and give impetus to tourism in the region.
