New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor received head injuries in a freak accident at a Kerala temple on Monday. He is the candidate from Trivandrum Lok Sabha constituency.
The incident occurred at the Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Thampanoor, after the weighing scale on which the leader was sitting, broke and fell on his head.
Doctors said Tharoor has got 6 stitches on his head.
Thulabharam is a ritual in which a person sits on a balance scale against a heap of offerings such as flowers and fruits, equal to the devotee’s weight.
Started my paryadanam of Kazhakoottam yesterday on a unique note – with a ‘thulabharam’ of bananas! At least in temples I can claim to be a “heavyweight politician”! pic.twitter.com/vR4ytAsI4v

Kerala is celebrating its new year Vishu today and devotees often visit temples to offer prayers and Thulabharam on this day. Thulabaram is usually done against fruits, ghee, rice, sugar, jaggery etc.
The Congress leader has been on a campaign trail and had earlier performed Thulabharam in Kazhakkoottam constituency before kick-starting his election campaign from there.
