Special Court convicts Rampal in two murder cases, sentencing on Oct 16-17

New Delhi: Baba Rampal, the self-styled godman, was on Thursday convicted in two murder cases by a Special Court in Hisar Central Jail 1. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on October 16 and 17. The two cases relate to death of six people.

In preemptive response to the crucial verdict, Haryana police have made elaborate security arrangements to thwart off any incidents of mob-fury and violence. Police have fortified Hisar with the deployment of 1,800 policemen and checking of every vehicle entering the town. Rail services to Hisar from different parts of the country have also been stopped.

Haryana District Collector Ashok Kumar Meena told news agency ANI, “Ahead of the verdict, we have taken adequate measures to maintain law and order. Section 144 has been imposed across Hisar district. Around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed.”

FIRs against Rampal

A total of six FIRs were filed against Rampal and his supporters.
The court had earlier acquitted Sant Rampal in two cases which included charges of taking followers hostage.
Two other cases include one on the charges of sedition, which are still pending in the court.
