Surat Diamond bourse pips Pentagon to become world’s largest office building, PM Modi tweets

New Delhi: Pentagon, the headquarters of United States Department of Defence just lost its supremacy of having the world’s largest office building as the same has been overtaken by India’s Surat Diamond Bourse now.

The recently constructed Dimond Bourse in Gujarat’s Surat is a state-of-the art building with mammoth space spreading to about 7.1 million square feet. Compared with Pentagon’s 6.5 million square feet, this magnificient building now surpasses the size of one of world’s most landmark buildings.


Architects of the Surat Diamond Bourse claimed that the building covers an area of 7.1 million square feet of floor space and this makes it second to none.

Surat Diamond Bourse has been developed as a one-stop destination for bringing together all activities of diamond business under one roof. This will serve as a default destination for 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers, and traders.

Its 15-storey complex features 9 rectangular structures with all interconnected from a ‘central spine’

Notably, the construction work for building began in 2019 and is set to complete in November 2023. The delay apparently took place because of Covid-imposed restrictions. Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the fascinating office building hosting diamond businessmen.

Commenting on the landmark moment, Prime Minister saluted the country’s entrepreneurial spirit and said that it will give impetus to economy & create employment opportunities.
