Sushma to hold talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will hold talks with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing today.
Mrs Swaraj arrived in Beijing on a four-day visit to China yesterday.
She will also attend the ministerial level meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Tuesday. During her one-on-one meet with Mr Wang, Mrs Swaraj will discuss a range of issues including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China in June to attend the SCO.
This is their first meeting after Wang was elevated as state councillor last month which makes him the top diplomat of the country in the Chinese hierarchy.
China said on Wednesday that the upcoming visit of the Indian External Affairs Minister will further enhance political trust between the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying had said the visit will also elevate the China-India strategic cooperation partnership.
This is the first meeting of the group after India and Pakistan were admitted to the SCO last year.
She along with other foreign ministers of the group will call on Chinese President Xi Jinping. After attending the SCO meeting, Mrs Swaraj will leave for a visit to Mongolia.
