New Delhi: Newly-elected Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nusrat Jahan attended the annual Iskcon rath yatra with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.

Actress-turned lawmaker Nusrat Jahan has been making headlines since her parliament debut.

Nusrat Jahan was caught in the eye of storm after she was spotted in Parliament wearing mangalsutra and sindoor.

However, the lawmaker, unbothered by threats and warnings, was spotted with Mamata Banerjee wearing mangalsutra and sindoor.

She has been under attack by Muslims clerics for her attire after marriage with Kolkata businessman but the first time MP brushes aside her critics.

Speaking about the fatwa issued against her, Jahan said: “Don’t pay heed to things which are baseless. I know my religion. I have been a Muslim by birth and I am still a Muslim. It’s about faith. You have to feel it inside your heart and not in your head.”

A fatwa was issued by a cleric against Jahan for sporting “un-Islamic” attire in Parliament on June 25, when she took oath as a Member of Parliament.

“There is no political angle here, it’s just the matter of faith and belief,” she added.
