New Delhi: A polygraph test was conducted on Aaftab Amin Poonawalla, who is an accused in the horrific Shraddha Walkar murder case in New Delhi.
The polygraph test of Aftab Amin Poonawala was conducted in Rohini’s Forensic Science Laboratory.
Aftab Poonawala is suspected of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, chopping her body parts into 35 pieces, and disposing of them away in the city.
After cutting Shraddha’s body, Aftab stored the body pieces in a refrigerator.
Aftab had undergone the Perceptual Ability Test (PAT)- a psychological analysis test.
The accused is currently in police custody. Aftab killed Shraddha on May 18.
Aftab has to undergo some tests to check his emotional, mental, physiological, and psychological well-being. If he is found to be disturbed in the preliminary tests, then the narco test cannot be conducted on him.
What is a polygraph test?
A polygraph test is conducted on an individual to check/ measure a person’s heart rate/blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity.
The main purpose of a polygraph test is to prove whether or not a person committed a crime.
However, the test cannot actually test for honesty.

A polygraph test is conducted on a person after instruments such as cardio-cuffs or sensitive electrodes are attached to them and variables like blood pressure, pulse rate, blood flow, etc., are measured to check on the changes in the individual.
According to each response that is recorded in numerical value, a person’s test is concluded and one comes to the conclusion on whether the person is telling the truth, is deceiving, or is uncertain.
When did the first Polygraph test was conducted?
It is said that the first Polygraph test was first conducted in the 19th century by the Italian criminologist Cesare Lombroso. He used the machine to measure the changes in the blood pressure of criminal suspects during interrogation
Similarly, in 1914, a device was created by the American psychologist William Marstron and by California police officer John Larson in 1921.
