Who is Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, Tripura’s ‘kingmaker’ and chief of Tipra Motha Party (TMP)?

New Delhi: Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, chief of the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (or TIPRA Motha) and Tripura’s royal scion is one of the major factors that is seen in this Assembly elections in Tripura.

Tipra Motha is called the kingmaker of the Tripura election 2023 after the Congress alliance welcomed Tipra Motha to join its alliance.

In the 2023 Tripura Assembly Elections, Tipra Motha fielded candidates in 42 seats.

Ahead of the Tripura assembly elections,  Pradyot Deb Barma did not accept any alliance.

Who is Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma?

Debbarma started his political career with the Congress, before he quit the party in 2019 reportedly after the differences with the Congress party’s then-general secretary and northeast in-charge Luizinho Faleiro.

Pradyot Bikram Kishore Manikya Deb Barma Bahadur, an ex-royal family scion formed the Tipra Motha in 2019.

Tipra Motha is headed by Former Congressman Pradyot Deb Barma. Before Tipa Motha became a political party, it was a social organization in the State.

He was also the editor of TNT-The Northeast Today.

On July 4th, 1978, Bubagra Pradyot Manikya was born in New Delhi as the first son of Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Debbarma (the 185th king of Tripura) and Maharani Bhibu Kumari Devi. Both his parents were in Congress.

He spent his early days in Shillong, Meghalaya at the Tripura castle. Also, his initial higher education was from Shillong.
