Who is Yasin Malik? Timeline of terror funding case

New Delhi: Mohammed Yasin Malik, a Kashmiri separatist leader and former militant is know for advocating the separation of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan.

Yasin Malik had been charged under terrorist acts, for illegally raising funds, and being a member of a terrorist organisation, criminal conspiracy, and sedition.

May 25, 2022: NIA court reserved the order and will pass judgment on sentencing today itself at 3:30 pm

May 19, 2022: He was convicted by the NIA Court on May 19.

May 16, 2022: The NIA Court had ordered the framing of charges against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, Kashmiri separatist leaders including Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Masarat Alam and others under various sections of UAPA in a case pertaining to the terrorist and secessionist activities that disturbed the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

April 10, 2019: JKLF chief Yasin Malik was arrested in connection with a case related to the funding of terror and separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

February 26, 2019: Yasin Malik’s house was searched and several electronic items and documents was seized.

2017: NIA registered a case of terror funding against various separatist leaders,  and named Yasin Malik and four others in a charge sheet filed in 2019.

January 12, 2016: In Jan, 2016 Yasin Malik had written a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, opposing Gilgit-Baltistan’s merger with Pakistan.

February 2013: Yasin Malik banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed at a protest site in Islamabad.

May 2007: A campaign was launched by Yasin Malik and his party JKLF launched which was known as Safar-i-Azadi (Journey of Freedom).

March 26, 2002: Under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Yasin Malik was arrested and was later detained for almost a year.

October 1999: Indian Authorities arrested Yasin Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA)
