Woman abused, assaulted by another female passenger on Uber cab; tweets ordeal

Mumbai: In a horrific tale of events, a woman journalist was abused, assaulted and harassed by a female co-passenger in the city while they were travelling in an Uber cab on sharing basis.

The incident took place in Lower Parel of Mumbai.

What happened in Uber pool ride

Ushnota Paul, a journalist by profession, claims that she was not only physical attacked but was also racially abused by another woman in the Uber cab. She claimed that her co-passenger was arguing with the driver and when she tried to intervene, she was called names and expletives were hurled at her.

Ushnota took to Twitter to share her ordeal and also sought help from Uber_Support but to no avail.

The co-passenger got into verbal altercation with the Uber driver as she wanted to be dropped first. When Paul intervened, she proceeded to attack her. Paul was scratched on her hands and her face and clumps of her hair were pulled out by her co-passenger. Things got extremely weird at Lower Parel when the woman hurled racial abuses at Paul. When Paul defended herself, the woman threatened her.

FIR lodged but Uber cites ‘customer privacy’

Paul got a police complaint lodged against the female co-passenger but failed to get any help from Uber. Paul tweeted to Uber seeking details of the woman but the app based cab aggregator denied it citing customer privacy, reports said.

Though Uber replied to Ushnota’s tweets but it was more like an automated reply. Police were helpful and even went in search of woman but failed to locate her.

After Paul’s Twitter thread, Uber said it would get in touch with her through e-mail after reviewing the situation. However, shaken and terrified with the experience, Paul left a piece of advice for cab riders.
