New Delhi: Depression, a mental disorder, has emerged as a major illness in the ‘new age world’ especially in the urban societies. The particular illness has progressed at a fast pace, silently entering people’s homes and affecting the young and adults alike.
Making a unique effort to arrest its growth, writers Amrita Tripathi and Arpita Anand have written a book detailing about the victim’s mental state, diagnosis of the disease and also the myths attached.

The book describes what trouble the depression patients had to endure, what treatments they underwent… basically an account of their journey towards healing, something that will fill others with hope.
According to authors, this problem is omnipresent in today’s society and the biggest challenge is to make the victims acknowledge that they are grappling with such mental disorder. Many a times, people are anxious and worried but aren’t aware that they are dealing with depression.
An account of alarming situation in India
Depression is very much prevalent in today’s times and is often referred to as common cold of psychiatry. Today, in India, around 150 million people suffer from depression which require immediate intervention. According to National Mental Health Survey (2015-16), one in every 20 Indian suffers from depression. This itself is a clear indicator of the alarming situation in the country.
The book is an honest attempt to spread awareness about this illness, to educate people about identifying the illness and also about the therapies available to cure it.

Most importantly, the authors seek to send across a clear message – that there exists a solution- Hope. No matter how seriously you are in the grip of depression, there exists a solution – Hope, and knowing where to get help.
In many cases, a good piece of advice or knowledge is enough to help someone on their journey to healing. If people are aware of this problem and understand its solution, in advance, it will be much more easy to handle it and get treatment or therapy, or find the best way to cope.
