New Delhi: With recent surge in Coronavirus cases, UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed authorities to ramp up testing capacity to 40,000 tests a day. Till date, the Uttar Pradesh is conducting 35,000 tests per day.

“The testing facility for COVID-19 should be increased to 40,000 per day. There should be 30,000 RTPCR tests and 10,000 rapid antigen tests per day,” the CM said while addressing a meeting to review the COVID situation in the state He also asked officials to make people aware of precautions like wearing masks, an official statement said.

These tests would be done using TruNat machines, along with Antigen testing and the RT PCR testing methods.

A total of 845 fatalities have been reported in the state till Wednesday. While the total number of active cases are 9,980, about 20,331 people have been discharged from hospitals.

ICMR Senior scientist Nivedita Gupta said,

Specialists to be sent to hard-hit Jhansi, Kanpur & Varanasi 

With COVID-19 cases rising in Jhansi, Kanpur and Varanasi, the chief minister said a team of specialists doctors should be sent to the three districts. Extra vigil should be maintained in districts reporting rising cases of coronavirus infection, he said.

UP govt provides financial aid to over 11 lakh workers amid lockdown

As per recent data, the COVID-19 tally in UP crossed 30,000-mark with 1196 fresh cases and the number of deaths increased to 845 with 18 more deaths reported. Out of fresh cases, maximum were reported from Ghaziabad with 165 cases followed by Lucknow with 97 cases and Gautam Buddh Nagar with 81 cases.
