Bengaluru: It was a close shave for IndiGo passengers as two planes came face-to-face in the Bengaluru airspace but managed to avert a mid-air collision in the nick of time on Tuesday.
The aircraft involved in the incident were operating on Coimbatore-Hyderabad and Bangalore-Cochin routes.
The incident was confirmed by an IndiGo spokesperson.
It was a narrow escape for nearly 330 passengers as Hyderabad-bound plane had 162 passengers while the other aircraft was carrying 166 passengers.
Sources said that the vertical separation between the two aircraft was only about 200 feet and a mid-air collision was averted after the Traffic Collision Avoidance System alarms went off.
IndiGo said in a statement that the pilots of both the flights were immediately alerted by the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), following which the crash was averted.
Sources said Aircraft Accident Investigation Board has started an investigation into the incident that happened on July 10.
