IPL 2018: RCB beat MI by 14 runs, Kohli dedicates victory to wife Anushka
Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by 14 runs at Bengaluru last night. Virat Kohli dedicated RCB’s victory to wife Anushka Sharma as it was her birthday.
Bangalore had posted 167 for 7 after they were put in to bat. In reply, Mumbai managed to make 153 in the stipulated 20 overs.
With the win, Bangalore has moved to the fifth place in the 8-team points table with 3 wins from 8 games. Mumbai, who are the defending champions, are seventh with just 2 victories from 8 matches.
Chennai Super Kings are the table toppers. Sunrisers Hyderabad are second, with Kings Eleven Punjab third. Delhi Daredevils are rock bottom.
How Kohli’s team broke the jinx
Captain Virat Kohli (32) and Brendon McCullum (37) added 60 quick runs in the middle overs to help RCB recover from a slow start and Colin de Grandhomme (23 from 10) hit three sixes in the last over, bowled by fellow New Zealander Mitchell McClenaghan, to provide a flourishing finish to the RCB innings.
Opener Manan Vohra (45) played a useful knock at the top before being trapped by Mayank Markande.
MI all-rounder Hardik Pandya (3/28) scalped three batsmen and effected a run out to stop the hosts from running away with a big total but it proved enough in the end as all Mumbai Indians managed was 153 for seven.
The RCB bowlers, specially Umesh Yadav, produced hostile fats bowling spell upfront to peg Mumbai Indians back while Tim Southee (2/25) and Mohammed Siraj (2/28) delivered the goods in the death overs.

“My wife is here and it’s her birthday. This was a little gift for her. It was very important to achieve these two points in front of her,” Kohli said at the post match presentaton ceremony.
Kohli was overwhelmed to earn two crucial points and keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the play-offs.
Anushka Sharma cheered on from the stands as RCB players fought hard to earn a 14-run win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru Tuesday.
