New Delhi: Makkal Needhi Maiam’s chief Kamal Haasan said on Saturday he would ‘definitely’ contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, reports ANI.

Haasan had last week said his party has started preparing for the general election but declined to speak on possibilities of forming an alliance with other parties.

“I will definitely contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” the actor-turned-politician said.

Haasan has been touring Tamil Nadu to strengthen his new party.

Commenting on the rumours of alleged alliance, he said that his party gave him the authority to make decisions regarding the alliance ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the meeting, Haasan said, “We won’t join hands with parties that are trying to change Tamil Nadu’s DNA,” adding that his party would join hands only with like-minded people.

Asked if he would go it alone or ally with other parties for next year’s parliamentary election and bypolls to 20 assembly constituencies, he said, “Such things cannot be said now and it cannot be disclosed to the media. Some sections of media are imagining things.”

The MNM leader, before his visit to the villages hit by Cyclone Gaja in November, told reporters at the airport here: “We will do only what is good for people.”

Kamal Haasan’s venture into politics came after another Tamil cinema icon, Rajinikanth, spoke of plans to form his own party
