Is Tejashwi capable of taking over Lalu Yadav’s political legacy?
The verdict in the fodder scam is definitely going to affect the political career of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav as well as his party. In other words, with the conviction of Lalu Yadav in the fodder scam case, the RJD supremo’s political future is bleak now.
The verdict has set off a massive debate over the political future of RJD as well. What is believed is that it will be Tejashwi Yadav who will have to shoulder the responsibilities of political legacy of Lalu Yadav. It will be Tejashwai who is set to take over the charge of RJD affairs.
But the question is how far Tejashwi is ready to take up the responsibility. Is he capable of shouldering the responsibility? All eyes are set on how younger son of Lalu manages to establish himself in the politics of Bihar and how he takes forward his party in the state, given the importance of Lok Sabha elections of 2019, which will be followed by Bihar assembly elections in 2020.
Tejashwi Yadav is yet to prove his organisational as well as administrative skills. What has so far been seen is that Tejashwi Yadav keeps firing salvo at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He did take to streets against Nitish Kumar when the latter severed ties to form the government with the support of BJP in the state.
This development had been followed by Tejashwi launching diatribe against Nitish and BJP during his yatra. By dint of his political campaign, he did manage to establish his different image and identity.
Tejashwi Yadav was seen carrying himself forward on the political path like his father Lalu Prasad Yadav. He tried to be flamboyant like Lalu in Assembly also. The way he tweeted after conviction of his father also reflected the political discourse that he would be following from now on. In a series of tweets, Tejashwi said that Lalu’s biggest guilt is that he rose from poverty to challenge the influential people in power. He tried to use the verdict to raise the issue of Bihar pride.
But the challenges are galore for Tejashwi. He will have to face the real challenge of keeping the party intact and united in the face of turbulence. Days before the fodder scam verdict, Lalu had begun to project Tejashwi as heir apparent. But what could be a setback to Lalu’s plan is the resentment simmering among several senior leaders of the RJD. With this being the case, Tejashwi will have a tough time keeping these leaders satisfied and happy.
At the same time, Tejaswi Yadav is facing Enforcement Directorate probe in connection with alleged money laundering in the railway hotels allotment corruption case. For this, he has been under attack from JD(U) and BJP. The attack on him will escalate more and more in future. What remains to be seen is how Congress gets along with Tejashwi and RJD in days to come. However, the company and support of newly-anointed Congress president Rahul Gandhi is what Tejashwi must be looking for.
