New Delhi: Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday expunged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Congress BK Hariprasad, who was the Opposition’s candidate for the post of deputy chairperson of the Upper House.
PM Modi made the comments after NDA candidate Harivansh won the election for the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson.
This is perhaps for the first time that a part of Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament has been deleted from the records.
Taking jibe at BK Hariprasad, PM Modi said the contest was between two men with “Hari” in their names. And then after a pause he said, but one is BK (Hindi bikey meaning sold), the other is not.
Following this, Congress raised hue and cry about PM Modi’s remarks and demanded deletion of remarks as ‘this was in bad taste’.
Congress leader BK Hariprasad was also upset with PM Modi’s jibe.
“The Prime Minister belittled the dignity of the chair and brought down the dignity of the House,” Hariprasad said.
