2nd ODI: India beat New Zealand by six wickets, level series 1-1

Pune: India beat New Zealand by six wickets in the second one-day international (ODI) at the MCA stadium here today. With the victory, India levelled the three-match series 1-1.

Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Dinesh Karthik (64 not out) helped India chase down the modest 231-run target in 46 overs with six wickets in hand.

The third and final ODI between the two teams, will be played in Kanpur on Sunday. This will be the series decider.

Starting the chase, India suffered a setback as the team lost opener Rohit Sharma (7) early in the fifth over.

Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli then gave strength to the team in chase of the target. They added 57 runs for the second wicket in just 9.2 overs.

De Grandhomme dismissed Kohli and broke the partnership. Dhawan put up another fifty-run stand, this time with Karthik for the third wicket, to keep India on track. Dhawan reached his 22nd ODI fifty off 63 balls with the help of a six and five fours.

New Zealand’s Milne took wicket of Dhawan in the 30th over with India needing 86 more to win the match. Dhawan and Karthik put on 66 runs for the third wicket to keep India on track.

Hardik Pandya (30) then joined Karthik and added 59 runs for the fourth wicket to take India closer to victory.

Earlier, Bhuvneshwar Kumar did wonderful bowling with the help of whom India restricted New Zealand to a modest 230 for nine.
