After hosting the high octane “India-Pakistan” match, Nassau stadium is set to….

New Delhi: After hosting 8 wonderful matches which included the iconic India vs Pakistan clash, the Nassau cricket stadium is set to be dismantled. New York authorities have been getting ready to tear down the pop-up stadium which has been one of the most interesting points to talk about in this year’s T20 WC due to the uneven bounce of the pitch.

The news of the dismantling was first broken out in a viral ANI video where bulldozers are seen parked outside the stadium. So far, according to the reports only the modular components will be dismantled and repurposed. However, local cricket clubs can still enter the high-quality turf and infrastructure for their practice.

Authorities are optimistic that the presence of such a high-quality facility will help to boost the popularity of the sport in the country. Moreover, it will also help to develop the local or homebred talent of America. So far, in the American cricket team, only Steven Taylor is the only homebred player.

Nassau’s farewell game of the T20 WC 2024…

Nassau’s final game was between co-hosts, the USA and the men in blue, Team India. Losing the toss, India put the co-hosts to bat first. The Americans were bundled out for a paltry 110 runs courtesy of a fiery spell from Arshdeep (4/19). In reply, Suryakumar Yadav hit a fine half-century to rescue India from a precarious situation of 15-2.

Nassau has seen its fair share of action, India vs Pakistan being the pivotal one. The game was swinging like a see-saw. However, India managed to thwart their arch-nemesis finally courtesy of an inspired bowling performance from Jasprit Bumrah.

For now, it’s lights out in Nassau! But, with the tremendous success shown by America in cricket and with the Los Angeles Olympics in 4 years where cricket is set to make its return, New Yorkers can hope for a return of cricket to their backyard once again!
