New Delhi: The women’s pole vault final in Paris 2024 saw some jaw-dropping performances with athletes going toe-to-toe against each other. However, none could beat the ‘TWERKS’ of Alysha Newman from Canada. Newman won the bronze medal with 4.85 m. Both Katie and Alysha tied at 4.85 m, however, it was the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Katie Moon who got the silver medal due to the countback.

  1. Nina Kennedy- 4.90 m (Australia)
  2. Katie Moon- 4.85 m (USA)
  3. Alysha Newman- 4.85 m (Canada).

But it was the twerk of Newman which attracted the netizens. Newman who was rumoured to be injured before the pole vault finals did that celebration to prank her coaches. Alysha was quoted by a magazine from her country, “I’m always injured, and I’m always getting back on the horse so I said I’m gonna scare my coaches because I want them to lighten up.”

The Canadian athlete added that the ‘twerk’ happened very spontaneously and it was not pre-planned in her mind. Furthermore, Newman said that she did not mind the opinions that people were forming for her celebration as it was something that was very natural and displayed her true and inner self.

Interestingly, apart from vaulting, the Canadian is also a celebrated model back home. Alysha reportedly has huge popularity on her ‘Only Fans’ account as well. But contrary to popular perceptions, Newman does not have any adult content in it.
