New Delhi: The highly awaited Asia Cup 2022 cricket tournament is set to kick-start with a clash between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, while the defending champions India will begin their drive with a face-off against neighbours and arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
Notably, the event was previously scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka but was later shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) owing to Lanka’s vast economic crisis.
The middle eastern nation will organise the event in two of its renowned venues including Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The tournament which will kick off in the T20 format features a total of six teams categorised into two groups for the initial matches. During the early matches, the teams will face off each other in their groups and the finalist will go for a clash after advancing to the Super 4s.
The filtered teams from the Super 4s will play against each other in the finals which will take place on September 11 in Dubai.
