India now has a total of 83 medals, which includes 20 gold medals.

Indian female athletes are taking the lead this time by adding medals in numbers, including more than half of the gold medals won by India are won by female athletes.

The latest additions to this group of elite women are Jyothi Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur, who clinched the gold medal in the women’s compound archery team event.

The trio defeated the team from Chinese Taipei in a close contest in the finals, where they edged out their opponents by the barest margin of 1 point, with the final score reading 230-229 in favour of the Indian team.

The result, however, did not come as a surprise in the sporting fraternity as the trio of Jyothi Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur are also the reigning world champions of this event and were also seeded number one at the Asian Games 2023.

India played like the world champion throughout as they defeated Hong Kong, in the quarterfinals by 231-220 and Indonesia in the semifinals by 233-219.

Interestingly, this is Jyothi Vennam’s second gold medal at the Asian Games 2023, with her singles gold medal match yet to come.

Aditi Swami can also taste the double success as she is also yet to play the bronze medal match in the individual event.
