‘Balcony C’ of Green Park Stadium in Kanpur remain doubtful! ahead of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

New Delhi: After a resounding win in Chennai, India’s red-ball action now shifts to Kanpur where the second test between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to take place. Green Park Stadium is hosting a match after a long time and it is a big achievement for the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). But ahead of the second Test, the venue has run into some unwanted complications.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the Balcony C of the Green Park stadium has been declared dangerous by the PWD due to some minor structural problems which can turn out to be a safety issue for the fans. According to the PWD-

The PWD has raised some issues, and we have agreed that we will not sell all the tickets of Balcony C. We have been told to sell only 1700 tickets for the stand, which has a capacity of 4,800. The repair work will continue for the next couple of days…

The PWD is currently investigating the problem and has recommended a complete shut down of the stands. The stand is so feeble that it is speculated that it will not be able to withstand even the minutest of the excitement from the fans generated from seeing their stars on the infrastructure.

Another infrastructural issue the report has pointed out is the lighting issue, as eight floodlight bulbs which are close to the VIP pavilion are not functioning accordingly. This can turn into a major problem as Kanpur suffers from low visibility as the day progresses making it difficult to navigate the ball due to low light.
