New Delhi: The RG Kar Doctor rape and murder case has now affected the ambit of sports as well. According to a recent decision taken by the authorities, the Derby match scheduled to take place between Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal on the 18th of August (i.e. Sunday) stands cancelled.

The match was scheduled to take place in the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on the 18th of August. According to the tournament official’s bite to the PTI, a cancelled match means both teams will be awarded a point each while a full refund will be initiated for the fans.
Amid doctors’ protests across West Bengal, the football match between the Mohun Bagan and East Bengal has been canceled, as the ‘police would be unable to provide adequate security for the match’.

As per sources, reports were that the fans of both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal fans were ready with protest banners to voice their opinion against the entire incident that happened to the resident doctor in RG Kar. The protest of the fans was scheduled to take place in the middle of the match when the fans were supposed to come out in protest.
Furthermore, according to the popular sports media channel Revsportz, all the matches which were scheduled to take place in Kolkata stand cancelled with the matches seein a possible shift to Jamshedpur.

East Bengal will be the second team in Group A of the Durand Cup with 7 points from 3 matches. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan will qualify as the group toppers from Group A based on Goal Difference with East Bengal.
