England announces their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Returning to captaincy duties, Jos Buttler is once again set to lead the side in the ICC Champions Trophy.

New Delhi: Returning to captaincy duties, Jos Buttler is again set to lead the side in the ICC Champions Trophy. However, the main highlight is the inclusion of Joe Root, last featured in the format in England’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign.

England, the 2019 edition winners, crashed out of the tournament in the group stage, winning just three out of their nine matches.

England Tour of India 2025

The English team is set to travel to India before they take on the Champions Trophy assignment in February/March 2025. England will visit India for a five-T20I and three-ODI series, beginning with T20Is on 22 January.

Both white-ball squads, led by regular skipper Jos Buttler, feature a mix of youth and experience. Both squads are largely the same, except Root, who has been only selected for the ODIs and Champions Trophy, and the 20-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed, who only features in the T20I squad.

England will travel to India on 17 January, with the first T20I in Kolkata on 22 January. The three ODIs will be played between 6 to 12 February.
