FIFA World Cup 2022: Who is likely to win Golden Glove award? Check number of saves, clean sheets by goalkeepers

golden glove contenders

New Delhi: The Golden Glove is won by the best goalkeeper in the FIFA World Cup, while the tournament is coming close to an end, the race for the award is getting narrower. From Dominik Livakovic to Hugo Lloris there are many keepers in line for the Golden Glove award this year. With superb saves during the games and in penalties, goalkeepers have given some golden moments in the Qatar World Cup.

In the 2018 Russian World Cup, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove. Fans expected legendary Manuel Neuer to perform well in Qatar but Germany’s early exit kept Neuer out of the race.

Here are the contenders for the Golden Glove ranked:

1. Dominik Livakovic

In the five games that Croatia has played, they have eliminated various teams including the defending champions Brazil and their goalkeeper Livakovic has been one of the key players in the same. It is not easy to save penalties in high-pressure knockout games, but Dominik Livakovic has done it twice. Out of 22 shots taken against him, he has saved 19 and also has had two clean sheets in the tournament.

2. Yassine Bounou

Morocco is having a dream tournament and while they are just two steps away from the trophy, Yassine Bounou can be credited for their success. He has an amazing record when it comes to clean sheets as he has three of them in four games. He has only conceded one goal so far in the tournament.

3. Emi Martinez

After an upsetting loss against Saudi Arabia, the Argentinian goalkeeper has done his job well to get two clean sheets and a penalty win in the knockouts. While he has conceded five goals in total, two crucial penalty saves in the quarterfinals against the Netherlands are ranked much higher.

4. Hugo Lloris

Kylian Mbappe and the strikers have done the job for France, but no one can deny Hugo Lloris’ contributions in leading the defending champions into the semis. Lloris has saved eight shots out of 12 struck at the goal and him conceding just one goal against England was a great example of the same.
