New Delhi: Mohammed Shami, who had turned out to be a genuine pace option for India last year has been ruled out of the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Shami’s miss is going to be a detrimental blow for Team India who are already battling a series loss at the hands of New Zealand. Mohammed Shami’s loss has been reiterated by former Australian skipper, Tim Paine as well who feels that Shami’s absence will be the X-factor between India’s win/loss against the Aussies.
Speaking on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Paine revealed that:
Shami is going to be a huge difference, Bumrah, there is so much on his shoulders. If he gets hurt, then it’s curtains for me…
The right-arm pacer last played for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2023 following which he has been out of the national side due to recurring injuries starting from his ankle. Shami also missed the ICC T20 World Cup and the entire IPL season. Now, the right-arm pacer will be missing the Border Gavaskar Trophy as well.
