New Delhi: The Afghanistan cricket team and their entire journey is the talk of the town in this year’s World Cup. A team which rose from the ashes has gone on to become the ‘giant killers’ of the T20 World Cup. First on this long list of priceless scalps are the Kiwis, followed by the Aussies.
On Tuesday i.e. 25th of June (IST) Afghanistan played one of the most crucial matches against Bangladesh. In what turned out to be a low-scoring and cagey affair, Afghanistan managed to edge out their Asian neighbours to go to their maiden semifinal game. This has been a remarkable achievement for a team that became a full member of the ICC back in 2017.
“Red card for Gulbadin Naib”: Ashwin taunts Naib’s on-field theatrics
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh has been a game of ups and downs which was spiced even more by the theatrics of Gulbadin Naib. Seeing the comical acting of Naib, Indian off-spinner R. Ashwin has remarked, “Red Card for Gulbadin Naib“.

Replying to Ashwin Anna, Naib has written an intriguing and comical reply to Ashwin’s post on X (formerly Twitter).

Gulbadin’s theatrics have been a cause of intense backroom drama and debates amongst experts and pundits. According to the viral video that was circulated, Jonathan Trott was seen asking his players to slow down the tempo of the game. Due to incessant rainfall, the game between Afghanistan and Bangladesh experienced a lot of rain delays and breaks. Naturally, the unpredictable and nightmarish DLS method is set to determine the course of the match.
At one stage, Afghanistan had managed to defend the DLS par scorer. However, Litton Das’ counterattack tilted the game in favour of Bangladesh. Seeing the game slipping away, Naib decided to show his onfield theatrics and delay the game.
