New Delhi: Jemimah Rodrigues opened up about some trivial moments in her life, including getting dropped from the 2022 World Cup squad and dealing with her cousin’s death. Talking on the chat show ‘Breakfast With Champions’, hosted by Gaurav Kapur, she shared some fun and some low moments in her career while telling how to correctly pronounce her name.
Talking about not getting selected for the 2022 Women’s World Cup squad in New Zealand, she shared that Indian men’s team captain Rohit Sharma cheered her up. Jemimah told that Rohit shared his experience of not being selected for the historic 2011 World Cup and how he was depressed for a month. Sharma shared that Yuvraj Singh stood by his side and took him out for dinner.
Rodrigues also said that Rohit advised her to make sure when she gets the next opportunity, she is ready for it. Rohit added whether it happens or not, “it is fine.”
Talking about the tragic incident of her cousin’s demise, she shared that it changed her a lot and made her insecure. The batter added that she could not sit in a classroom with 30 people. She added that she used to cry a lot and could not figure out what exactly she was going through. Jemimah said that however she tried to get over it, she could not.
Apart from the lows, she also shared the memories of meeting Sachin Tendulkar and commentating with Nasser Hussain.
Jemimah is known for a cheerful personality on and off the field, but the interview showed another side of the cricketer.
On the work front, Jemimah was last seen in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), playing for Delhi Capitals. She was part of the team that ended up as the runner-up and she scored 126 runs in seven innings. Recently, she was also included in GQ’s 35 Most Influential Young Indians list.
