New Delhi: Amidst rising security concerns, the security of the high-voltage marquee of India vs Pakistan clash has been ramped up. This match is scheduled to be played at the newly formed Nassau County Stadium on the 9th of June. Bruce Blakeman, the executive of Nassau has assured that the authorities have taken all possible measures to prevent any uneventful incident during the entire match.

“Well, we’ve been gearing up for that match because we know it’s the biggest match in the world….” India vs Pakistan has always been a fierce rivalry that has parallels with the likes of El Classico (Real Madrid vs Barcelona) or the North-West Derby (Manchester United vs Liverpool). However, things are a little more spiced up over here as the history of the two teams is not only limited to the on-field rivalries but off-field geo-political controversies as well.

What is the security issue around the match?

The security authorities of the stadium have placed snipers at covert positions throughout the match. Moreover, the Nassau County Police Department has said that it will look after the games that will be held in Long Island from 3-12 June, so that the games go ahead without any undue problem. The main security threat came after an alleged bombing threat from a pro-ISIS group.


Apart from covert snipers, police will also be deployed in large numbers- in uniform and plain clothes. Furthermore, the four drop-in pitches are continuously monitored to stop any suspicious activities. The police force of Nassau has joined hands with the FBI, the US Dept of Homeland Security and the New York Police Department.

On the day of the match, the nearby and adjacent areas will also be closed down for the normal public to minimise any threats to the game. Moreover, there will be a thorough search of the people entering the stadium to watch the match. It is prudent that such a high-voltage match like this happens without any disturbance and tension.
