India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Ravichandran Ashwin creates unique record in Test cricket

New Delhi: India’s saviour in the 1st Test at Chennai, Ravichandran Ashwin has become the first cricketer in the 147 years of Test cricket to score more than twenty 50+ scores and more than 30 five-wicket hauls. Interestingly, Ashwin is the only test cricketer to achieve this remarkable feat and that too during a very crucial stage of the game when half the Indian side was back in the pavilion.

Earlier, on a bouncy and tricky pitch of MA Chidambaram stadium, Hasan Mahmud ripped apart the entire top order of the Indian batting unit. Subsequently, Ravichandran Ashwin started a counter attack with assistance from Jadeja. The southpaw registered a fine century (102 runs off 112 balls). Ashwin’s century included 10 fours and two sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 91.07.

Currently, Ravichandran Ashwin has 36 five-wicket hauls. It is the third-most by any Test bowler. Subsequently, he also has scored six hundred and 14 fifties in the longest format of the game.
