India’s lone rower Balraj Panwar finishes second in the Repechage to enter the Quarterfinals

New Delhi: Balraj Panwar, the lone rower of India advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s single sculls event. Earlier, Panwar had come agonisingly close in the Heat 1 of the Men’s Single Sculls.

However, Panwar recovered from that shocked defeat to redeem himself and storm into the quarters. It is heartening to see that India is competing toe to toe in sports where very few athletes dare to dream.

Panwar remarked, “Grateful for the support from JSW and IIS on the road to the Paris 2024 Olympics. I’ll give my all and make you proud!” For now the 25-year-old can surely pat on his back to let the feeling sink in.

Panwar who kickstarted the campaign in style was quick to start the race. Balraj had covered the first 1000m in 03:33.94 to be placed in the second place. At one point in time, it looked like the Indian rower was well set to top the Repechage round.

However, the Indian rower managed to hold his second position to earn the ticket to the Quarters. Eventually, the 25-year-old rower finished the race with a timing of 07:12.41. Balraj will now compete in the Quarterfinal 4 on the 30th of July.
