IOA President PT Usha clarifies official side in the Vinesh Phogat disqualification case

PT Usha

New Delhi: After rallying her support behind Vinesh Phogat, IOA head and chairman PT Usha has now reversed her allegiance and said that the problem Phogat finds herself is a result of her own doing. In a recent statement from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president, Usha stated that the Medical officer, Dinshaw Pardiwala is blamed without any fault of his own.

Rather than that, Usha has blamed Vinesh and her supporting staff as well as the coach who trained Vinesh before the big final for the callousness with which they proceeded. In the final, the Indian grappler was found 100g above the prescribed weight category and was disqualified.

According to the rules, the IOA medical team travelled only for injury-related problems. Naturally, Vinesh’s problem anyway falls out of the ambit of the IOA medical team. Furthermore, the IOA medical team was facilitated for those players who did not have their personal trainers, physiotherapists and nutritionists. Vinesh had all of these with her and even then was not able to prevent the mishap. Naturally, in these circumstances, it was cruel to pass on the blame on the medical team which was travelling with the Indian contingent.

PT Usha further added, “The hate directed at the IOA medical team, especially Dr Pardiwala is unacceptable and unworthy…” Moreover, the IOA President found that the unnecessary hate that her team was receiving because of Vinesh’s irresponsibility was unfair. People should form an opinion after checking the facts thoroughly.

When will the final verdict of CAS will come out?

According to various reports, it was earlier believed that the CAS verdict on Phogat’s case would come out on the 11th of August before the closing ceremony. But now, it is believed that the official verdict will be delayed by 2 days and come on the 13th of August.
