New Delhi: Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy locked horns in the first-ever all-India Olympic Knockout competition. The match ended in the favour of Sen as the 22-year-old Indian shuttler who is making his Olympics debut managed to sweep past the veteran Prannoy. Earlier, Sen managed to win against his arch-nemesis Jonatan Christie in the Round of 32. Christie was a firm favourite to finish on the podium. However, Sen managed to win a hard-fought game against the Indonesian to reach the Round of 16.

Lakshya who is having a hot and cold form in the calendar year 2024 was part of the Thomas Cup winning team and since then has been a rising talent in the badminton circle. On the other hand, Prannoy who won the first individual medal in the Asian Games 2022 after a long wait of 40 years is coming back after illness in the Paris Olympics. Naturally, both shuttlers went toe-to-toe against each other in this pulsating match of the pre-quarters.
What happened in the game?
The young Indian shuttler managed to race past Prannoy in the first game as he ended the first game 21-12 in favour of Sen. In the second game, Sen looked even more in control as he took an unassailable lead of 11-3 in the mid-game interval. Subsequently, Sen diminished Prannoy’s play as he looked in the driver’s seat at 17-5. Eventually, Sen finished the game in his favour 21-6 in the second game to finish the game within 38 minutes.

Lakshya Sen will now take on Chou Tien-Chen of the Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics 2024. Chou is coming into the match after defeating world no. 5 Kodai Naroka of Japan.
