Meet Nehal Wadhera who smashed record 578 runs in Punjab U-23 tournament

New Delhi: Nehal Wadhera won the hearts of his fans and family after he scored 578 against Bathinda U-23 in the semifinals of the Punjab State Inter-district tournament. The match was held in Ludhiana’s GRD Cricket Ground.

To pile up 578 runs at the crease, Nehal smashed 42 fours and 37 sixes. On Day 2 of the four-day match, Ludhiana declared it innings at 888/6. In response to Ludhiana’s score, Bathinda was 117/4 at stumps.

The 21-year-old cricketer was born on September 4, 2000. Notably, Wadhera was born a month ago Yuvraj Singh made his international debut in 2000 in Nairobi.

After scoring 578 runs, Wadhera told the Indian Express, ”I am yet to check  whether I made a world record or not, but I am delighted with my performance…I am happy with contribution and wish to win the torunament.”

Earlier, Nehal also played U-19 cricket.  In July 2018 during the tour to Sri Lanka, he had score two half-centureis. It is important to not that, he smashed 540 runs in the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy.

Nehal wants to play like Yuvraj as the former India middle-order batsman his idol.

Talking about the Wadhera’s game, his mentor Charanjit Bhangu said, ”You can see glimpses of Yuvraj in him. Wadhera’s timing, his hand-eye co-ordination is brilliant, everything is just perfect.”

For the IPL trail in 2022, the franchise Rajasthan Royals had called Nehal but he was not purchase by any team.

Taking about the IPL, Wadhera said, ”At the Rajastrailhan Royals camp, Sangakkara sir encouraged me a lot. During the time at trail, he spend quality time with me. He also gave me inputs. I am hopeful to get a chance to play for the senior Punjab team and IPL in the future.
