New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is known for being the ‘Captain Cool’ but ex-CSK players Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir revealed an incident where the captain got emotional and burst into tears. Star Sports shared a video from the commentary box where Singh and Tahir can be seen discussing the time when CSK came back after a two-year ban from IPL.
Harbhajan said that in 2018 when CSK returned after the ban, there was a team dinner and MS Dhoni cried that night. Tahir added that it was an emotional moment for Dhoni. The South African spinner said that day he realised that CSK meant a family to Dhoni. Tahir said that when everyone labelled them as a team of old men, they went on to win the trophy in 2018 and he is proud of it.
Talking about Dhoni’s character, Harbhajan said that the skipper left after they lifted the trophy and when he was asked, Dhoni said that his job was done.
Dhoni’s selfless nature is the reason behind his huge fanbase and amid the rumours about his retirement from IPL, he is leading CSK into yet another playoff. While there have been a lot of speculations around Dhoni’s last season, the wicketkeeper batter has not made a statement in regard to it. However, in a few post-match presentations, he mentioned that he is getting old.
This season, Dhoni returned to his role as a finisher and has scored 103 runs in 10 innings at a whopping average of 51 as he got out only twice. Hitting 10 sixes and 3 fours this season, the batter has had a strike of 190 in his 10 knocks.
CSK will face defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on May 23 in Chennai at 7:30 pm.
