IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab by 3 runs, stay alive in play-offs race
Mumbai: The defending champions Mumbai Indians kept their play-off hopes alive by defeating Kings Eleven Punjab by three runs in a last-over thriller match.
Chasing 187 runs for win, Kings Eleven finished with 183 for seven in their 20 overs.
The scores were Mumbai Indians: 186 for 8 in 20 overs. Kings XI Punjab: 183 for five in 20 overs.
For Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard finally came good, keeping them in the game with a 23-ball 50 (5 fours, three sixes).

Mumbai Indians thus registered their sixth win to join Kings XI and Rajasthan Royals at 12 points in the table. The victory propelled Mumbai’s chances into the play-offs as they sit at the third place in the points table.
KL Rahul’s 94 went in vain as Kings XI ended agonisingly short of their 187-run target to suffer their seventh defeat of the season as they dropped down to sixth in the points table. Jasprit Bumrah (3/15) produced a spirited performance to stop Kings XI at 183/5 in 20 overs.
The three-run win took Mumbai Indians’s tally to 12 points from 12 games, the same as Kings XI Punjab. Mumbai Indians have a better run-rate and an easier last game, against bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils while Punjab face the in-form Chennai Super Kings.
