National Rifle Association of India announces maiden franchise-based Shooting League

In a recent development from the world of shooting, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Wednesday announced the sport's first-ever franchise-based league in the country christened "Shooting League of India".

New Delhi: In a recent development from the world of shooting, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Wednesday announced the sport’s first-ever franchise-based league in the country christened “Shooting League of India“.


The proposal was presented by the NRAI president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo and has received the green signal from the national federation’s governing body. Speaking about the lucrative options which will be opened up due to the franchise-based system, Deo remarked:

We have seen how well-organised franchise leagues have not only helped in popularising the sport even further but most importantly have brought in new audiences and revenue for them and their athletes. We owe it to our athletes to make the sport self-sustainable….


Meanwhile, K. Sultan Singh- the secretary-general of the NRAI shed light upon the basic functioning of the Shooting League of India and remarked-

We want to have all 15 Olympic events as part of the SLI, but we will try to innovate and tweak some formats so as to make them more exciting to watch on telecast or livestream. We also want to have unique ownership and team composition, which will help in bringing in newer audiences and sponsors to the sport. More details will be shared soon…

When will the Shooting League of India take place in India?

The inaugural edition of the Shooting League of India is likely to take place in March 2025. However, the exact timeline for the league is yet to be confirmed by the NRAI once the pending approval comes from the International Shooting Sport Federation.
